Our History
Eagle Point Mutual was started by a group of farmers in Chippewa county June 7, 1879.They formed the Eagle Point Fire Insurance Company because of the substantial savings on premiums compared to the larger out of state insurance companies at the time.
Eagle Point opened for business with 38 charter members insuring assets of $52135.00.
Many of their descendants are still policy holders today. After one year there were seventy policies issued with no cancellations and no losses. The company was licensed to write insurance in the townships of Eagle Point, Bloomer, Auburn, Wheaton, Lafayette, Anson, Edson and Sigel of Chippewa County, Wisconsin
The first loss for the company came in 1880. It was for $3.00 which was divided equally among all the policy holders. This form of post assessment of premium was used until 1941 when they changed to the current method of advanced premium collection.
The company ran the business out of the home of their first president W.B. Bartlett. In 1920 they moved to the city of Chippewa Falls. After moving to several locations in the city they purchased their current location at 23 West Central Street in 1965.
Eagle Point Mutual continued to grow their insurance business over the years. In 1964 they began writing city property. They expanded coverage to four counties. In 1965. And in 1969 the company began writing liability for their policy holders.
For over 130 years Eagle Point Mutual has been committed to providing a full line of insurance coverage for their policy holders. The board and management constantly monitors their reinsurance and investment programs to keep the company strong and limit risks. Eagle Point Mutual has not only survived the test of time. They will be there to service their policy holders for years to come.
